What does the solenoid do and why might I need one?
You will only require a solenoid if you are using a 12 /
24 VDC motor. Much like in an automobile, the solenoid allows for the use
of a light duty, low amperage switch to be used to operate a motor which
requires a relatively large surge of electrical current to operate the
motor. This surge is allowed by the solenoid to go straight from the
battery to the motor while bypassing the switch. Note: Our latest
consolidated weatherproof switch boxes have the solenoid and circuit
breaker built-in and do not require an additional external solenoid.
